Acoustic Calendar for Wessex

Tony Watts runs a service to advise of acoustic events in the area.  The Calendar is for singers/musicians who want to participate in folk clubs, singarounds, & open mic nights and has a list of all the sessions in the area.  It is updated 6- monthly so do check with the venue first to see that the event is still on.

He will send the Calendar & Updates to whoever would like to receive them so if you would like to be on the mailing list to contact Tony: sanchobramble@hotmail.com

Alternatively you can go to the following site and follow the link to download the acoustic calendar.  www.folkmusicsomerset.co.uk/somerset_folk_diary.php

Additional Classes

If it is difficult to get to the Saturday morning classes, or you would like to play more often than once a fortnight, and you are free on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, you may like to try one of the classes offered by Hibernia teacher Jill Elliot.  For further details go to www.fiddlelessons.co.uk - and it is not just for fiddle players.

This site is run by a Hibernia member.

Amongst other things to do with "trad music", this site has a collection of app. 120 + tunes.  These include most of the tunes that get played at Hibernia, plus quite a few that get played at the local sessions. It is being  added to it all the time.

Each tune has a music score (with guitar chords). For those who prefer to learn to play "by ear", for each tune there is a sound file (midi) which is set to cycle around 10 ten times. The sound files are only computer-generated (using a free-reed midi voice), but nonetheless are good enough for someone to pick up the basic melody if they don't read.
